Shirley High downed
Shirley Boys’ High School suffered its first defeat of the season when it crashed
30-18 against Hagley High School in an inter-school rugby league match for the Ham Cup on Wednesday. Unbeaten before the game, Shirley had no answer to Hagley’s five converted tries, three of which
went to Dave Green, who was later adjudged player of the day.
For Hagley, Green, John Jackson and Eugene Hodge, scored tries with David Hose converting all five, while Steve Rickerby, Kevin Burchett and Dan Apu scored tries for Shirley. Apu also kicked three goals.
