Friends of festival sought
A Christchurch Friends of the Festival group is being formed for those wanting to support the 1986 New Zealand International Festival of the Arts in Wellington. Mrs Barbara Stewart has been appointed as regional co-ordinator for Christchurch. Those becoming Friends of the Festival will receive priority with bookings for events, a quarterly news-
letter on planned events, eligibility to join the Festival Club, opportunities to meet performers and access to group travel arrangements. The first copy of the Festival Newsletter announces highlights planned for the three-week festival. These include two performances by Dame Joan Sutherland, a season of Royal New Zealand Ballet Company, two concerts by
the Berlin Staatkapelle Orchestra,, a Writers’ Week, two programmes of chamber music, an exhibition of studio glass, theatre productions, a season by the Wellington City Opera, an exhibition of New Zealand
paintings, and screenings of the French silent film, “Napoleon.” Anyone interested in joining the Friends should contact Mrs Stewart, 60 Glandovey Road, Fendalton, Christchurch 5.
