L.A. fare offer from Chch

Air New Zealand is offering South Islanders a special return fare of $1344 from Christchurch to Los Angeles as a limited introductory deal on its new direct service beginning on October 29. This is $45 more than the $1299 Aucklanders will pay for the airline’s other introductory (and longer) flights between Auckland and Vancouver in November. Nevertheless, Christchurch travellers who manage to secure the limited number of seats set aside for the special low fares on the Christchurch-Los Angeles service will save $444 on the normal advance purchase fare during November, and $919 when those fares are increased to the high season rate on December 1.

The special offer on the Christchurch flights will be available only from October 29 to December 10. The minimum booking and payment period is 14 days before departure. Return travel must be made by January 27. The special fare requires travel in both directions to be completed on the direct services, which will depart and arrive on Tuesdays. Travellers from Auckland wanting to join the flights out of Christchurch will have to pay $1429 — an extra $B5 for round-trip domestic flights. However, with Air New Zealand and CP Air offering their introductory $1299 fare between Auckland and Vancouver, few Aucklanders are likely to journey south for the dubious privilege of travelling through Christchurch. The Canadian fare, ex-Christchurch, is $1384.
