Fendalton Road purchase backed

The Waimairi District Council’s policy of buying properties for eventual widening of Fendalton Road should be confirmed, said the council’s works, reserves and traffic committee last evening. The council’s deputy engineer, Mr Gary Main, said after the meeting that although the council still had no firm proposal to widen Fendalton Road, it had

brought 33 of the 80 properties it needed to widen the road between the railwayline and Clyde Road. This had cost about half the $300,000 the council had set aside to buy land, he said. the vestry for the Anglican parish of Fendalton and the Canterbury Branch of the Automobile Association. The vestry said Fendalton Road was the centrepiece of Fendalton and asked that its unique qualities be retained. The A.A. said it supported in principle the idea of widening the road and awnted to be kept informed £s planning proceeded. V
