Lecture by U.S. composer
An American composer, Karl Korte, will give a public lecture in Christchurch this evening on “Democracy, Mass Culture, and the Arts.” Professor Korte, a professor of composition at the University of Texas, has taught at several universities and schools. He has won several awards and prizes for music, including a Fulbright grant to Italy, a gold medal from the Belgian Government, and a George Gershwin Memorial Award. His compositions were first performed in the 1950 s in New York. Since then he has written for orchestras, small ensembles and soloists, some using a synthesiser or computer as accompaniment. His lecture will be given in Room 205 of the music department at the University of Canterbury at 8 p.m.
