Polish couple can stay in N.Z.

PA Wellington The Minister of Immigration, Mr Burke, has granted permanent residence to a Polish seaman who recently jumped ship in Singapore, Krzysztof Kulak, and his doctor wife. Mr Burke told NZPA that Mr Kulak recently left his ship in Singapore. “His brother-in-law paid his fare on to New Zealand so that he could join his wife who was on holiday here. “We gave them a temporary travel permit so that we could have a look at the

case,” Mr Burke said. He said that the brother-in-law had indicated that if the application was declined he would pay the fare for Mr Kulak to return to Poland. Mr Burke approved of the couple’s being granted permanent residence subject to normal immigration requirements being met. An Immigration Division spokesman in the Labour Department said that Mr Kulak’s wife had obtained registration as a secondyear house surgeon with the. Auckland Hospital Board.
