Sex education in schools

Sir,—Your correspondent, D. El-liot-Hogg, gives very good publicity to the Family Planning Association and its excellent sex education programmes. His criticism is strong recommendation. I have attended with my children and husband mixed parent and pupil evenings at our intermediate school run by Sue Billing, the Christchurch F.P.A. education officer. They are brilliant programmes, and very popular. She talks openly and naturally about many aspects of male and female development, and answers questions freely. Discussions afterwards, as a family, have been some of the best we have had. The F.P.A. and a good school programme support the role of the family in sex education and do far more for the health of families than these fringe groups who spend so much time trying to maintain unhealthy ignorance and shame. I congratulate Mr Marshall and the Family Planning Association. — Yours, etc., G. KING. July 1, 1985.
