Rugby tour

Sir,—Those who go to South Africa and see for themselves “are never again taken in by Marxist propaganda,” writes Bert Walker (“The Press,” July 3). I am delighted to learn from this that he acknowledges the validity of statements by those who have gone there, independently and without thought of financial gain, and retain impressions of gross inequalities, on racial lines, in health, education, housing, civil rights and job opportunities. When I visited South Africa last year I not only saw those things for myself, but I also heard from well-informed, thoughtful, and definitely not Marxist, South Africians, white as well as black, and including rugby fans, that an All Black tour this year will aggravate the country’s problems. — Yours, etc., PATRICIA SMART. July 3, 1985.
