Abortion service
Sir,—l am appalled that the abortion service which has been operating at the Christchurch Women’s Hospital is under stress, and may break down because of the retirement of one surgeon. I implore those suitably qualified medical people to take their turn in keeping a safe, legal system operating. No woman wants to return to the days of her female ancestors when her fundamental right to control her own fertility was a myth, an unattainable ideal. No New Zealand woman today should be forced to consider dangerous back-street methods. Her female ancestors suffered enough. Yours, etc., PAT A. OCEAN. June 29, 1985.
