Avitt for Brisbane

Special correspondent Cambridge The good handicapper, Avitt, is booked to leave by air on Sunday for Sydney on the first leg of his journey to Brisbane. Avitt will travel with his trainer Chris McNab to contest the Fourex Cup over 2200 metres at Doomben on July 13. He is to be ridden in Brisbane by Neil Hain. On previous visits to Queensland when trained by Nigel Landers, Avitt won the Prime Ministers Cup at Southport for three successive years from 1982. McNab said “he is extra well but it is a waste of time racing him here on heavy ground that he does not like.” Despite his dislike of the softer tracks Avitt has recently run second in the Fay Richwhite Cornwall Handicap at Ellerslie and, third in the DB Draught Trophy at Tauranga.
