‘Akaroa Mail’ to resume
The “Akaroa Mail” newspaper which went into recess last month, will reappear soon. It has been acquired by Mr Michael de Hamel, of Christchurch, who said that the next issue of the 109-year-old newspaper would appear in early July. Mr de Hamel, who has a wide variety of experience in journalism and photography is looking forward to getting the newspaper firmly re-established in the community.
“When I was young my family used to spend a lot of time on the Peninsula, and I used to dream’ of running the ‘Mail’. Now it is going to be hard work and great fun,” he said. The newspaper will be expanded from four to eight pages and will be distributed free over the whole Peninsula. It will also be available on subscription for people in other parts of New Zealand.
