China drops out
NZPA-Reuter Peking China has disbanded its national soccer team after being knocked out of the World Cup earlier this month by Hong Kong, the “Sports News” reported. The newspaper said that players had been sent home and the Peking City team would represent China in a
forthcoming invitational tournament in Peking later this month that will include the England club, Sunderland, and sides from Japan, North Korea and Rumania. China was defeated 1-2 by Hong Kong, triggering riots outside Peking’s soccer stadium in which buses and cars were smashed by hundreds of rampaging fans.
