Lewis eliminated
NZPA-Reuter Paris The New Zealand No. 1 tennis player, Chris Lewis, has bowed out of the French Open championships in Paris, losing his second round match against Spain’s Juan Aguilera. Lewis took the first set before succumbing to the rising Spaniard 6-4, 4-6, 3-6, 5-7.
Lewis’s defeat continued his disappointing run at the French Open, the mecca of clay court tennis. He has never progressed past the third round in spite of his liking for the surface. New Zealand’s other two entrants in Paris, Russell Simpson and Bruce Derlin, were both first round casualties.
