‘Monsieur le Drop’ covering the test
Two leading French television commentators, one being the great dropped goal exponent, Pierre Albaladejo, will be on hand to cover the first rugby test between New Zealand and England at Lancaster Park tomorrow. But they are not staying for the second test at Wellington tomorrow week. By then they will be back in their Paris studio providing a French sound track for the game coming in via satellite. As the pair explained yesterday, the trip to Christchurch was so that they could familiarise themselves with the players, and so make their task easier for the second test. The same television station intends to follow a similar course for the All Blacks’ three tests against South Africa this year. The commentators will cover the first test live, and the second two from the studio. For the station’s sake it is to be hoped that the teams, both here and in South Africa, do not change greatly from one test to the next.
Perhaps a set of photographs would have been a cheaper way of doing things.
