England rugby manager to meet Mr Minto
PA Whangarei The manager of the England rugby team, Mr Derek Morgan, will meet the antiapartheid leader, Mr John Minto, of Hart, tomorrow. Hart asked for a meeting with Mr Morgan and 10 members of the England team who played against the Springboks in South Africa last year.
“We are a little disappointed that Mr Morgan has declined to arrange a meeting with the players,” Mr Minto said, in a telephone
interview from Auckland yesterday. “But we will write to each of the 10 players to seek a meeting.” He said all 10 were on the blacklist — the United
Nations register of sportspeople competing in South Africa. The list is designed to encourage them to discontinue sports links with South Africa.
“We will seek an assurance from them that they will not play in South Africa again,” Mr Minto said.
