Chinese dislike surface
PA Wellington China does not like the surface on which its Eastern Zone Davis Cup tennis semi-final against New Zealand will be played and expects to be beaten by the home team which, it says, is the strongest in its section. The team interpreter, Yu Bin, said the Supreme surface at the Wellington Showbuildings was much faster than the Chinese team was used to, adding that New Zealand, bolstered by Chris Lewis and Russell Simpson, was sure to be too strong for his team. “At home we play outdoors on sandy clay. This type of hard indoor surface is foreign to us,” Bin said. Bin said it was too early to know which players China would field in the singles matches in this tie. When China played Hong Kong, You Wei and Xie Zhao played the singles and Li Shuchen and Zhang Fen the doubles.
