Auck. golfer beats Arnold

PA Wellington The Auckland No. 1, Karrin Duckworth, played outstanding golf yesterday to beat her Waikato-King Country opposite, Janice Arnold, 2 and 1 in the third round of the Stylemaster women’s inter-provincial tournament at Mount Denby. Arnold is regarded as New Zealand’s leading woman golfer and it took a miraculous performance from Duckworth to upset her, as Auckland upset her Waikato combination. When the match ended on the seventeen green Arnold was one under par but Duckworth, the non-travel-ling reserve for the New Zealand women’s team which defends its Queen Sirikit Cup title in Kuala Lumpur next month, was two under.

Arnold picked herself up returning in the afternoon to defeat the promising Wellington teenager, Tracey Hanson, four and three. Hanson had earlier beaten the Otago No. 1 Jan Scandrett.
