Forest policy

Sir, — The Forest Service has always been in the vanguard of forest conservation. The formulation of the Indigenous Forest Policy and the development of an ecological reserves network which is now the model that others follow are just two examples. It is truly amazing that the promotion of a further initative to protect native forests by the Forest Service should be opposed by some who purport to be conservationists (“The Press,” March 26). This opposition bears testimony to the fact that objectors are not at all concerned with the real issues, but wish only to denigrate those advancing sound forest management principles. — Yours, etc.,

J. C. HALKETT. N.Z. Forest Service, Wellington. March 29, 1985.
