Loud concerts
Sir,—Stricter concert controls are definitely not a necessity. Outdoor concerts in Christchurch are so rare that loud music once every few months can surely be tolerated. In the last 14 months, I can only remember four outdoor concerts. Four nights out of 14 . months of reasonably loud music until 11 p.m. is not worthy of complaint. Very few bands visit Christchurch due to the high cost of freighting equipment to the South Island. Now, even fewer will tour Christchurch because of the possibility of more restrictions: lowering the noise level and finishing concerts earlier. Why should the 50-odd
people who complained have everything their way because they dislike modern music? One concert every few months surely can be accepted. Older people have peace and quiet every other night; let the young people enjoy their music. Remember “give and take” is the answer. — Yours, etc.,
