Moral issues
Sir,—While it is good to see the Salvation Army making a stand on moral issues, it cannot expect to retain credibility if it continues a crusade on one issue. Patricia Bartlett has campaigned for years, with little support from any of the churches, against the sale of pornographic literature which has brought the standards of the world’s brothels and sewers right into the home. The anti-vivisection groups have maintained for years that the experimentation on animals is godless in its conception and should have the support of the churches in its condemnation. The Salvation Army, in its nation-wide campaign against homosexual law reform, has an excellent chance of getting petitions on other issues as well. This would ensure that its morality is all-embracing and not bigotry against one unfortunate group.—Yours, etc.,
J. SHARP. March 28, 1985.
