Softball award
Jane Earnshaw, a member of the New Zealand A team which contested the recent South Pacific Classic in Melbourne, was named yesterday as the Canterbury women’s softball “player of the year.”
Earnshaw, aged 23, plays for the Burnside club. She has represented New Zealand as an outfielder since the 1981-82 season and was
a member of the national side which won the women’s world series in Taiwan in 1982.
The men’s “player of the year” has not yet been decided. Other awards announced by the president of the Canterbury Softball Association, Mr Dale Eagar, were: Top batters: Robyn Storer (Burnside) and David Workman (Burnside). Most promising women’s player: Trinia Whittaker (Albion). Most valuable tournament player: Paul McFarlane (United). Shirley Stead trophy for best under 21 tournament player: Chris Patterson (Burnside).
