PA Masterton In a cliffhanger finish to the North Island golf championship at Masterton yesterday, Mark Williams, aged 20, of the Lochiel club, Hamilton, hung on to win by a stroke from three challengers. Williams, under pressure over the final wind-blown holes, three-putted the last green for a 78, and a fourround, seven over par total of 293 in the stroke-play event, one shot ahead of David Render, Hastings, John Sanders, Christchurch, and Frank Borren, Hutt.
