World rugby cup in 1987
NZPA-Reuter Paris The International Rugby Union Board will stage a world cup in 1987, the board announced yesterday. The board, the game’s ruling authority, approved during a meeting in Paris a proposal by the Australian and New Zealand unions that they prepare a feasibility study on the possibility of organising such a competition.
“This study was presented to the board and has been considered in detail by each member union. Following very full discussion, the board has agreed to proceed with the staging of a competition in 1987,” said the board.
The board has set up a committee to control the competition and has asked the Australian and New Zealand unions to carry out detailed organisation and planning.
