Nuclear ship ban
Sir, — It has been pleasing to see all the responses in your columns concerning the nuclear ship ban. Even more pleasing is the fact that the majority are in favour of the ban. Mr Lange is rapidly elevating himself with this stand, especially with the extreme pressure being placed on him by the Leader of the Opposition, Mr McLay, and other overseas leaders such as Sir Joh Bjelke-Petersen. Hopefully once New Zealand has shown the world that we are not prepared to accept nuclear weapons, other countries
may also summon the courage to make similar stands. Inevitably such a stand by many countries must have an impact on the two super-Powers who hold this threat over us like the sword of Damocles. I hope other people are as proud of this beautiful country and of our new Government as I now am, and are willing to offer their support for this potentially historic stand. —
Yours, etc., P. G. LAYTHAM. February 5, 1985.
