Moderator elected
PA Rotorua Dr I. J. Cairns has been elected Moderator-designate of the Presbyterian Church in New Zealand. Dr Cairns is a lecturer in New Testament at Holy Cross College, Dunedin. He was a missionary in Indonesia for 20 years, and has since spent several years as a parish minister in Invercargill. He will become Moderator at the 1985 General Assembly, which will meet in Dunedin. This week’s General Assembly in Whakatane also re-elected the Rev. Reg Weeks, of Wellington, as the Church’s director of ministry, and Mr Tete Tawhara as secretary of the Maori Synod.
