Women’s Forum
Sir,—Most men will now have had time to work out their reaction to the violence that arose at the Women’s Forum at Hagley High School on Saturday. For me it exposed the fundamental blockages that nearly all men have to accepting the anti-sexist objectives of the new Ministry of Women’s Affairs. The male chauvinists who infiltrated the conference and then refused to keep their word about leaving, and the others outside who turned to violence are just the tip of the iceberg of vicious male power in our society. It all provides undeniable justification for the women’s rights movement, and for the dismantling of male bloc power at every level. It clearly exposes that inherent male reaction typical of this threatened world of male-dominated violence in families, religions, social structures and international politics. We men must learn to care and share. — Yours, etc.,
PETER HEAL. November 4, 1984.
