Man killed in glider accident
A student glider pilot was killed yesterday when a glider crashed near Thames. He was Alistair William Christie, aged 18, of Thames. The instructor, Mr Allan Bellworthy, also of Thames, suffered bruising, lacerations and shock in the accident, which happened about 1.30 p.m. It is not known who was flying the glider. The crash occurred about Ikm from the Thames airfield. The glider, which had released from its tow aircraft, struck a ridge about 300 m above the airfield. . The cause of the crash is unknown. The glider belonged to the Hauraki Aero Club and was on a regular week-end flight. Mr Christie was in the front seat of the glider.
