Arts weapon used on man
PA Auckland The martial arts weapon, num-chuka, was used to get a man off Mr Matiu Rata’s property, a court has heard. Kevin John Hopson, aged 24, unemployed, pleaded guilty in the District Court at Auckland yesterday to asaulting Lewis David Alp on September 24. Judge Mahoney convicted and remanded him on bail to October 17 for sentence. Sergeant Timothy Hughes said Mr Alp had called at
Hopson’s address in Mount Smart Road on September
24. A longstanding dispute between the two developed into conflict, apparently over trespass. Hopson wanted Mr Alp to leave and, to help him, he used a set of num-chukas. Mr Alp was struck across the bridge of the nose, suffering a large gash. Mr Alp then left, but returned later. His actions were subject to other charges. Hopson told the police i that Mr Alp was trespassing and had insulted his girlfriend.
Last week Mr Alp admitted intentionally damaging a car owned by Hopson and his girlfriend, Mary-Ann Rata. He also admitted damaging a window, the property of Mr Matiu Rata and possessing a pitch fork.
