Director appointed
PA Wellington The Geological Survey has appointed Dr lan Speden as director to succeed Dr Pat Suggate, who returns to active scientific work after 10 years as the survey’s director.
The Lower Hutt-based survey, founded in 1865, is the oldest Government scientific institution in New Zealand and carries out basic research on the geology of New Zealand. Dr Speden, aged 52, has worked at the survey since 1956 and is the leader of the regional geology group.
