Tobacco sponsors opposed
PA Wellington The National Heart Foundation has urged the organisers of the 1990 Auckland Commonwealth Games not to accept sponsorship from cigarette companies. The medical director of the foundation, Dr David Hay, said yesterday that cigarette smoking should not be associated with sport in any way. “There is not much dignity in dying from lung cancer and we, in the health field, would strongly urge the Games organisers not to accept sponsorship from firms which produce products that are health hazards,” he said.
