Railway jigger obstructed
Westport reporter Westport police spoke to several young people yesterday after the discovery of a potentially dangerous obstacle on the railway line at Te Kuha. A jigger returning to Westport from the Buller Gorge was fortunate to avoid striking an obstacle, more than a metre high, as it rounded a bend at Te Kuha about 3 p.m. The obstacle placed across the line consisted of a pyramid of rocks topped by a railway sleeper. The police were informed immediately. They interviewed a group of young people from Wellington, together with two locals. However, no charge was laid.
