Bad driving

Sir,—Fancy the Ministry of Transport not knowing the cause of the number of accidents happening on New Zealand roads. I know the cause. After 12 years of living in the South Island, I can assure the Ministry of Transport that the majority of South Island drivers, and in particular the drivers in, Canterbury, are of a very poor standard. Driving in Christchurch city in a half-hour period, it is possible to witness at least 25 cases of driving which could quite easily result in an accident. All South Island drivers should be given another driving test with a higher standard, so the accident-promot-ing drivers will not be able to pass. The problem then is that these people will then buy bicycles and harass the few remaining good drivers.—Yours, etc.,
