Land sold for Chch ice rink
The developers of a $2.5 million ice-skating rink in Opawa have agreed to pay the Christchurch City Council $560,000 for the site. The council paid an undisclosed sum for the 3.2 ha Ensors Road property last year when part of it was needed for the Opawa expressway. The rest of the land was sold this week to Big Apple, Ltd, for its proposed leisure centre. A 920 sq m skating rink is expected to open in April next year. Tenders for it and a snack bar would probably be called next month, said one of the developers, Mr John Vryenhoek. Other possible uses for the site included a 10-pin bowling alley, golf, dodgems and bumper boats, he said. The machinery firm, Gough, Gough and Hamer, Ltd, which sold the property to the council, is continuing to use it until it can resite its factory.
