Bodies, minds and spirits
Avenal Gough: Professor Geering has been blessed with a fine mind, now highly trained, and he is a skilful debater. However, human beings have been made with bodies, minds, and spirits, and spiritual things can be discerned only by the spirit, and not bymeans of the mind. Jesus said:
“Father. Lord of Heaven and Earth. I thank you because you have shown to the unlearned what you have hidden from the wise and learned.” St Paul, a man with a gifted mind and highly educated, in his first letter to the Corinthians said: “So then, where does that leave the wise, or the scholars, or the skilful debaters of this world? ... for God in His wisdom made it impossible for people to know Him by means of their own wisdom.” (Good News translation.) Everybody may have a religion of some kind, but'often it is a far cry from the Kingdom of Heaven proclaimed in the New Testament.
