Informative and entertaining
Arthur May: Ever poised to criticise incessant and erroneous Christian propaganda in your column, I now offer a congratulatory note regarding the article “W’hat is a Christian?” I wholeheartedly agree with Lloyd Geering’s “To say that the Bible equals the word of God, full stop, is extremely dangerous and a form of idolatry.” Here is the word of a Christian that vindicates my views as frequently expressed in your column. I can only trust that paragraph will be noted and acted upon by your more fanatical correspondents. The mere mention of Inquisition must have sent shivers of apprehension down the spines of pure-as-the-driven-snow Christians. All in all, I found the article both informative and entertaining, as I believe would most rational twentieth century readers with open minds. More of the same would do wonders for mutual understanding between Christians and their traditional critics. While I do not agree with all aspects of the article its definite departure from the usual dogmatic Christian insistence made a refreshing change.
