Rail dispute resolved
PA Dunedin Normal train services are again running in Dunedin after the resolution of a dispute over a signalman’s shift hours. The dispute arose when Railways management ordered a Mosgiel signalman to rest after he had worked an unbroken shift of 19 hours. The Mosgiel stationmaster was to take over but the union objected. A union official said workers returned to the job shortly before midday after the Railways had given an undertaking that in future only union members would be in charge of signalling.
