Moving company to sue B.C.N.Z.
Movements International Movers, Ltd, is suing the Broadcasting Corporation for an undisclosed sum of money after a disastrous removal* scene in the final episode on “Close to Home” last year. The company’s lawyer, Mr R. B. Leete, yesterday said boxes clearly showing the Movements International insignia were used in the final episode of the soap opera screened on August 30 last year. One of the characters was moving house, but the removal was a fiasco. “Things were broken, everything went wrong, and the manner of the removal men was
not complimentary to the company,” Mr Leete said. The Broadcasting Corporation had not been given permission to use the company’s boxes and Mr Leete said it would not have been given under the circumstances. The corporation claimed it was an accident the boxes were used and was sorry it happened, but anyone who saw the episode would have got a bad impression of Movements International, he said. A writ to be served on the corporation was filed in the Christchurch High Court on Monday. Mr Leete said he was not able to say how much the company was suing the corporation for, but said it was not a large sum.
