Beer sales to U.S. rise
PA Wellington New Zealand is now one of the top beer exporters to the United States after a 60 per cent increase in sales in the period 1982-83. A bulletin from the United States Government statistics of United States beer imports for January includes New Zealand among the top exporters of beer to the United States. In 1983, New Zealand exported 632,063 gallons, a 60 per cent increase over 1982. The biggest-selling New Zealand beer in the United
States is Steinlager. Leopard De Luxe lager is popular in California. Lion Breweries, which makes both beers, plans to celebrate with a special function later this month at which the Minister of Overseas Trade, Mr Cooper, will present a plaque to mark the export of one million gallons of Steinlager. Steinlager is now the second most popular beer in Hawaii and Australia, and is among the top 10 in California.
