Policemen to be charged
PA Wellington Two policemen, hurt when their patrol car crashed in Wellington, will be prosecuted for not wearing seat-belts. Deputy Assistant Commissioner W. R. Fleming, the Wellington police commander, said that the decision to charge the men came after an inquiry into the accident which happened soon after 6 a.m., in Kilbirnie, on January 25. The patrol car ran into a pole.
He said that the decision to prosecute the driver, Constable Martyn Renouf and the passenger, Constable Guy Launder, was made on the same basis as bringing a prosecution against a civilian.
