Boat scheme to end
PA Wellington A Government scheme encouraging savings for fishing vessel ownership will be discontinued because of pressure on fisheries. Legislation would be introduced as soon as possible to limit the scheme to existing account holders, said the Minister in Charge of the Rural Banking and Finance Corporation, Mr Maclntyre, yesterday. No new accounts would
be accepted, but the amend-
ment would not affect existing account holders who would still be able to operate their savings accounts as before and obtain benefits. “In the light of the present problems confronting the inshore fishery and the proposals to conserve the resource, it would now be inappropriate to continue the scheme,” Mr Maclntyre said.
