Eye-catching Hastings trial by Sky Beau
Special correspondent Hastings
Sky Beau hinted at further success in the near future when he turned in a sharp trial at the Hastings track on Tuesday morning. Fast work was mainly confined to the plough, with just two or three horses using the No. 1 grass. Both tracks were firm. Sky Beau ran a solo 800 m on the plough in 50.55, the final 600 m in 375. He was full of running at the finish and has obviously thrived since winning over hurdles at Awapuni on Anzac Day.
His owner-trainer, Des Connelly, intends running Sky Beau over hurdles at the Marton meeting next week and John McGifford has already snapped up the ride. After that Sky Beau will be set for the “Top Dog” hurdle series, run in the Central Districts. King’s Demand sprinted 600 m on his own in 37.85. He is entered for Saturday’s Wellington meeting but may not run unless there is plenty of rain. Watch Me, preparing for Saturday’s Proverty Bay meeting, hit out .strongly over 1000 m on the plough in Imin 2.65, the last 600 m in
37.45. Tallboy took Imin 20.7 s to run 1200 m on his own, the last 600 m in 38.85. He may also go to Gisbourne as his trainer, Mike Lange, is contemplating taking a team of horses up there. Nyhan and Red Sierra turned on the speed over 800 m in 48.85, the last 600 m in 36.75, while Tomsk ran two 600 m sprints in 37s and 40s. Claymore Boy and Bonnette worked over 1200 m in Imin 18.55, the last 1000 m in Imin 4.6 s and the final 600 m in 39.35, while his Sister ran 1400 m in Imin 34.35, the last 600 m in 39.45.
