Hotel workers end strike
PA Wellington Blue Heron hotel workers in Porirua ended their month-long strike yesterday and will return to work at 9 a.m. today. Forty members went on strike on March 31 in protest against a part-time wine steward’s resignation from the Wellington Hotel Workers’ Union. The steward is Mrs Jan Carmine. Union representatives and the Porirua District Licensing Trust’s negotiators considered the fourth in a series of proposals aimed at resolving the dispute last Thursday. Mrs Carmine said on Monday that she would accept the proposal to transfer her to a trustowned wine shop, on a onemonth trial. The proposal and conditions Mrs Carmine wanted were put to Blue Heron workers yesterday morning, and agreement reached, the
union secretary, Mr Peter Cullen, said. The position was created for Mrs Carmine and does not require her to work alongside union labour.
