Peace policy

Sir, — R. L. Pluck (April 19) writes that Social Credit and the Labour Party have long had the objectives of a nuclear-free zone and withdrawal from A.N.Z.U.S. He omits to mention the long campaign of the Values Party on these issues. More seriously, his letter is dangerously misleading on Labour Party policy. Labour (according to Frank O’Flynn) will not withdraw from A.N.Z.U.S. It expects it to mysteriously “wither away.” The myth of Labour Party commitment to real action on nuclear issues and A.N.Z.U.S. presents one of the peace movement’s greatest dangers. We cannot afford to have the movement crippled by a party that puts electoral gamesmanship before principle and commitment to peace.

— Yours, etc., WARREN THOMSON, Values spokesperson on peace issues. April 19, 1984.
