Mills in squash upset
PA Nelson John Mills, of Khandallah, scored the only upset of the Slazenger national under-23 squash championships in Nelson yesterday when he beat the No. 2 seed, Anthony McMurtrie, of Hamilton, for a place in today’s final. Mills, the third seed, will face the top seed, Danny McQueen, of Geyser City, in the men’s final and the women’s final will be between the top two seeds. Donna Gurran, of Remuera,
and Jillian Oakley, of Mitchell Park. Semi-final results.— Men: Danny McQueen (Geyser City) beat Robbie Wyatt (Geyser City) 6-9. 9-7, 97, 9-3; John Mills (Khandallah) beat Anthony McMurtrie (Hamilton) 9-7, 1-9, 4-9, 9-7, 9-4.
Women: Donna Gurran (Remuera) beat Tracey Mandel (Khandallah) 9-2, 7-9, 9-10, 9-1, 9-2; Jillian Oakley (Mitchell Park) beat Pam Dodderell (Thames) 9-6, 9-4, 9-3.
