Israel and war
Sir,—l agree with your correspondents J. T. Zarifeh and E. Cassidy (March 29). The Israeli ambassador believes that Israel and New Zealand have much in common — “both believe in a democratic free world.” By democracy and freedom does he mean: 1. The killing of many Arabs in Israel and
the extension of that country by, building more settlements on the' West Bank, leaving many refugees? 2. Invasion and subversive involvement in Lebanon? 3. Direct or indirect involvement in the killing of more than 800 Palestinian people in the Sabra and Shatila camps in Lebanon? I hope this is not the sort of democracy and freedom followed by New Zealand. Yours, etc.,
HAZEM MOHAMMED. April 10, 1984.
