Special cricket awards

NZPA London Special awards have been given to three of England’s cricketers who took part in the recent test-losing tour of New Zealand and Pakistan. The once-mighty lan Botham does not rate a mention, not even “in despatches.” Bob Taylor, Derek Randall and David Gower each received £4560 from Cornhill, sponsors of England test cricket. The manager, Alan Smith,

who nominated the trio, said: “Taylor belied his 42 years in maintaining a level of excellence and skill. If all his colleagues had been able to emulate that level, there might have been a different tale to tell.” He said Randall was the outstanding English batsman in the series against New Zealand, and his allround ability in the field was always in evidence.
