Youths arrested after plantation chase

Two youths, aged 16 and 17, were arrested by the police after a chase through the Woodend Beach and Pines Beach plantations yesterday. Twelve police, including a dog handler, from Rangiora, Kaiapoi, and Christchurch took part in the chase. The Rangiora police were alerted when a neighbour saw the two youths trying to enter a Woodend Beach

house, whose owners are away. The chase ended at Pines Beach, where the youths were caught by police from that end. The youths have been released on bail. The elder will appear at a sitting of the District Court at Rangiora on Wednesday, and the younger will appear in the Children and Young Persons Court.
