Japanese offer scholarships

Students of Japanese at New Zealand universities are eligible for one-year scholarships at a Japanese university through the Japanese Ministry of Education. Universities in Tokyo, Nagoya, Kyoto, Keio, and Hokkaido are among those taking in foreign students on the 12-month course. Applicants must have studied Japanese, and be taking courses which include the language or other aspects of Japanese culture.

After sitting an examination in May, the successful applicants will leave for Japan in October this year, and return in October, 1985. In addition to their Japanese studies, students will be able to take undergraduate courses relating to their major fields of study. Requirements for applications, which close on May 7, are available at Japanese diplomatic posts in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.
