Missing climber’s tent identified
The police are now fairly certain that a tent found in the Hooker Hut at Mount Cook this week belongs to the missing German tourist, Horst Bergmann. Mrs Bergmann, who is staying at Mount Cook awaiting news of his whereabouts, had identified the tent, said Senior-Ser-geant D. T. Crowe yesterday.
The tent was found on Tuesday during a routine clearing out of clothing and
equipment left in the hut during the climbing season. Mrs Bergmann had des- ( cribed detailed marks that were on the tent, and these were found when the police inspected it, he said. Senior-Sergeant Crowe said that the finding of the tent had increased the fears the police had for Mr Bergmann’s safety. Inquiries will continue throughout New Zealand in an attempt to locate him should he have left Mount Cook last month.
