Foursomes golf victors
After winning several close matches in the New Zealand ladies handicap foursomes golf championship, Elizabeth Simpson (Nelson) and Jean Jones (Westport) had an easy, 7 and 6, win over Betty Forrester (Greendale, Christchurch) and Rachel Richards (Hororata) in the final. The tournament was completed in perfect weather at the Greenacres Golf Club’s course at Best’s Island near
Nelson yesterday. In the semi-finals Forrester and Richards beat Joan Liddle (Totaradale, Nelson) and Rae Van T’Hof (New Plymouth), 2 and 1, and Simpson and Jones beat Daphne Lenton and Beryl Willis (both Nelson), 1-up. The Silver Salver (flight) was won by G. Copland (Rakaia) and R. Hunt (Ashburton), who beat J. Benschop (Russley) and J. Mercer (Waitikiri), 2-up.
